Cancer patients’ lives are being put at risk because savage Tory cuts to the NHS are delaying the start of their treatment by 18 months.
Official guidelines say no one should wait more than 62 days to get cancer care after an urgent referral by their GP.
But shocking figures uncovered by Labour yesterday show some patients are suffering agonising waits of as many as 541 days to begin treatment.
Experts say years of cuts to NHS budgets and staff has led to patients waiting longer for chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Treatment delays are also causing needless anxiety and distress to patients as well as putting lives at serious risk.
